Quilt Guild kicks off new year with workshops

FALLBROOK — The Fallbrook Quilt Guild will sponsor two distinctly different workshops this month.

On Saturday, January 10, Zena Thorpe will teach her quilting technique, “Embellished Appliqué.” Participants will receive a pattern and instructions for making a small wall hanging in hand appliqué with the embellished letters “LOVE.”

On Monday, January 12, Fallbrook artist Margaret Harwood will be presenting session one of a two-session workshop, “Putting the Art into Art Quilts.”

This workshop will cover the fundamentals of artistic design, including how artists get ideas for their work, the process artists use to create art quilts, the basics of composition, why some quilts sing and others go flat and how emotion is expressed in color and shapes.

Each student will design an original quilt pattern.

On February 9, students will return to session two with originally designed quilts.

To sign up for either workshop call Elvia Dawson at (951) 694-8023.

The Fallbrook Quilt Guild meeting on January 8 at 6:30 p.m. will feature a lecture and quilt show by Thorpe, who will speak on “A Look at History Through an Eye of a Needle.”

She will share her perception of how women through the centuries have documented history in their needlework. She will also show many prizewinning quilts.

For information regarding Guild membership call Andrea Hard at (760) 728-1079.
