UC Riverside educator named to board of state teacher education association

RIVERSIDE - A University of California, Riverside educator has been named to the board of a state teacher education association, the university announced today.

Anne Jones, assistant dean for academic programs and student affairs in the Graduate School of Education, will begin her four-year term on the board of directors for the California Council on Teacher Education on July 1, university spokesman Sean Nealon said.

Jones will be the only administrator from a UC campus on the nine-person board. The other members come from the California State University system and private colleges, Nealon said.

The California Council on Teacher Education engages in and disseminates research on educational policies and practices, and tracks policy issues at the state and national levels. The group also holds a conference twice a year about current issues in teacher education.

''This is a great opportunity to make a difference, especially at a time when there is such a large focus on how we prepare teachers and how they are evaluated,'' said Jones, who is also director of teacher education at UCR.

Jones earned a master's degree in teacher education from UCLA and a doctorate in educational leadership through a joint program through UC Irvine and UCLA. She holds a multiple subject teaching credential and taught elementary school and in full inclusion programs for students with severe disabilities.

Her research background includes study of performance assessments for teacher candidates. She is designing and implementing a system to collect and manage data for teacher preparation programs, according to UCR. jj
