Fallbrook residents and visitors may have seen small groups of people walking up and down Main Avenue, some in fanciful costumes, the morning of Saturday, June 11. The walkers were participating in the Fallbrook Food Pantry’s annual End of Hunger Walk-a-thon.

The walkers started at Trupiano’s Restaurant. From Main Avenue, they made their way up Alvarado to Brandon Street where the food pantry is located, then turned around for the round trip back to Trupiano’s.

According to the pantry’s case manager and volunteer coordinator, Nancy Rocha, there were about 160 participants, including more than 15 teams. Some walkers came quite a distance to help raise money for Fallbrook residents; a family even flew in from Australia (a staff member’s relatives) while other walkers came from Orange and Los Angeles counties as well as San Diego.

The fundraiser had 21 sponsors and, as of Saturday, had raised over $31,000 with more pledges bringing in money not yet collected.
