FALLBROOK – Ever been in a local store, bank or other facility and overheard and perhaps watched as someone with limited or no English skills struggle to complete the most basics of tasks? Imagine not being able to discuss a child's progress in school with their teacher or discuss medical issues with a doctor or nurse. Think of the challenge of ordering food in a r...

To find the best deals on gas in the area, check out www.GasBuddy.com or www.GasPriceWatch.com. Be a better driver. As a mother would say, “Dri...

  • Fallbrook businesses, clean up the internet

    Updated Sep 27, 2019

If you own a business in Fallbrook, you can use Google, Dogpile or Bing as search engines and correct the mistakes about your business. You should update the information on your website. For example, if you have people who no longer work for you, bad phone numbers, addresses, and incorrect info, please update it. To the nonprofits, be aware there are several organizations that are collecting donations on your behalf. If the businesses have been closed, it would behoove our community to remove them from Google. Think of it as...

  • Re: 'Vaccine bill SB276 is not 'California for All,' opposition says' [Village News 9/12/19]

    Updated Sep 27, 2019

I was very interested in the article “Vaccine bill SB276 is not ‘California for All’ opposition says.” I have inherited a tendency for allergic reactions to many ordinary substances, including eggs. As a child my mother did not have me receive at that time voluntary inoculations given for free at school. Yes, as an adult I got measles but I was not pregnant either time. Entering University of California Los Angeles as an adult, I was forced to receive these “shots.” My left arm swelled up to three or four times its normal...

  • Re: 'Reaction to our national news pages' [Village News, 9/12/19]

    Updated Sep 27, 2019

Please let me express my gratitude and wholehearted agreement with your editorial column, “Reaction to our national news pages” in the Sept. 12 edition of Village News. Most of the current news programming is just exactly that – programming. I believe intelligent, free thinking folks are weary of propaganda, from both sides, and just want honest reporting. Detective Sgt. Joe Friday said it best on Dragnet, when he advised, “Just the facts, ma’am.” That’s exactly what is needed for us to be fully informed, and not just the...

  • Should a taxing agency be counting votes?

    Updated Sep 27, 2019

Recently I received an informational ballot from the North County Fire District about their special district election. It raised so many questions I thought it must be a joke; however, on a further analysis, I saw they were serious. They are really asking you to send your ballot to them, the taxing agency, with your name and address and they will count your vote. There is no mention of any type of oversight committee for the counting of votes. You would think that the San Diego county counsel would have mentioned that in his...

  • Residents' input needed at SANDAG meeting

    Supervisor Jim Desmond, 5th District|Updated Sep 27, 2019

The future of San Diego's transportation is about to be decided. This Friday, the San Diego Association of Governments will decide where $600 million is going to be spent. From trolleys, to trains to freeways, anything is on the table. At our last board hearing, SANDAG unveiled a draft that I thought focused too much on public transportation and not enough on roads, which is what 96.5% of people rely on to get around. I support an alternative proposal presented by SANDAG...
